Odor‐Active Compounds in Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus Spenn.) Essential Oils From Genotypes of Different Geographical Origin

DOI 10.1111/1750-3841.70786VERIFIED CLAIM
In essential oils from six rosemary genotypes of different geographical origin, one sample each, flavour dilution factors from aroma extract dilution analysis and odour activity values consistently indicated that 1,8-cineole, α-pinene, 1-hexen-3-one, β-damascenone, 1-octen-3-one, linalool and fenchol had the greatest impact on the overall odour.
Essential oils of six rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) genotypes, a single oil sample per genotype; not fresh or dried leaves; the abstract gives no chemotypes; not every rosemary oil.
Odour analysis with human assessors. People smelled the separated compounds or the material itself (for example gas chromatography–olfactometry, dilution analysis, recombination or a sensory panel).
Source: primary study; sensory or perception work.
Studied: essential oils of six rosemary genotypes, by gas chromatography–olfactometry and odour activity values.
This describes how the source's evidence was produced. What the claim itself covers is its scope, above; how SmellBook checked the claim, where it could, is the next section.
SmellBook checked this claim against the source's own words, so that the claim says no more than the source supports. This does not repeat or re-test the study itself.
The statement the claim rests on was found word for word in the abstract fetched from the named service, and an editor read the full abstract against every part of the claim. Abstract from Europe PMC (ebi.ac.uk/europepmc).
Key odorant: The claim names it among the molecules that matter most for the smell of what was studied.
The claim says “1,8-cineole, α-pinene, 1-hexen-3-one, β-damascenone, 1-octen-3-one, linalool and fenchol had the greatest impact on the overall odour”
Also named in the claim, with no molecule record linked:
Each molecule named here has only the role the claim states; one molecule is not the whole smell. Each molecule page shows the other entries whose evidence names it.
